The founder of Tungnan University, Mr. Chiang Chih-Ping, established Tungnan Junior College of Technology in 1970. In 2000, this college was promoted to the Tungnan Institute of Technology and promoted to Tungnan University in 2007.

Today, as a result of 46 years of effort, this university is a dynamic place of learning offering quality education to those who study here. For some years it has been assessed as a first grade ranking institute of high education by the Ministry of Education and has served hundreds of graduates who are highly valued by their respective employers. Currently, the Tungnan University offers BS, BA, MS, and MBA degrees.

The educational program is divided into four divisions—the Daytime Division, the Nighttime Division, the Division of Continuing and Extension Education Institute, and the Division of Continuing Education College. Four institutes and 19 departments are included in this educational program. These include the Institute of Construction Technology and Hazards Mitigation, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, the Institute of Industrial Management, the Institute of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Environmental Engineering, the Department of Construction and Spatial Design, the Department of Mechatronic Technology, the Department of Energy and Refrigerating Air-conditioning Engineering,  the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Information Technology, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Industrial Management, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Information Management, the Department of Marketing Logistics Management, the Department of Travel and Ecotourism, the Department of Interior Design, the Department of Creative Product Design, the Department of Digital Media Design, the Department of Leisure Management, the Department of Hospitality Management, and the Department of Applied English.

Tungnan University’s enrollment is approximately 7,000 students, all studying and growing together in the scenic area of Shenkeng Township.

Our school motto is “Loyalty, Honesty, Diligence, and Perseverance” with the attitude of one mind on education, combined with teaching diligently with serious discipline. Over the past 46 years, under the leadership of Tungnan’s founder Mr. Chiang Chih-Ping and the charisma of past presidents and efforts of the staff members, our school has been ranked numerous times as a first-grade institution of higher education by the Ministry of Education. The instructional-excellence project was awarded consecutively by the Ministry of Education to our university in 2007 and 2008.

All faculty and staff of Tungnan University devote themselves according to humanitarian ideals, service-oriented principles, and scientific and culturally-integrated concepts to establish an outstanding campus environment, to improve the learning effectiveness of students, and to enhance the related work of career development

Tungnan University is an achievement-oriented university with very effective programs:

  1. We have created a multi-faceted teaching environment and have realized the goal of instructional excellence:

    In recent years, we have invested a significant amount of our budgetary funds in teaching and research equipment to create a perfect place for professional practice, experiment and research and a campus that fully utilizes digital learning. We provide both teachers and students of the university an excellent multi-faceted teaching/learning environment in order to realize the goal of instructional excellence in an efficient and effective manner.

  2. We are putting emphasis on the importance of professional certificates for both teachers and students and increasing the potential of our students in competing in the job markets:

    Education at our university integrates teaching, learning and student guidance by setting up a certification examination center to certify different levels of certification (including international certification). To totally integrate the certification examinations into specialty classes is our plan. We encourage and motivate both teachers and students to obtain professional certifications. By actively doing so, students will substantially strengthen their competitiveness in the job market.

  3. We seek to implement a learning quality assurance system in order to ensure effective learning for our students. To ensure learning effectiveness for the students, we have implemented the following:
    • appropriate career-oriented courses, programs, and curricula;
    • a conscientious teaching guideline for courses (programs) and curricula;
    • a self-improvement mechanism for courses (programs) and curricula;
    • a system for advancing the capabilities of teachers in teaching their respective specialties;
    • a comprehensive system of remedial learning.

    We have completely integrated general education into the system of teaching specialty classes. We practice job ethics when doing our specialties. Students’ interactions are built up in their daily life experiences, and this is the foundation for their being able to adapt to the job market in the future.

  • We seek to teach students in accordance with their aptitude and to practice humanitarian ideals

    An educational system of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude is used to mold the unique and sound characteristics of students. This is done to help students better understand their own self-dignity and tolerance of cultural differences, as well as to develop a strong sense about their own culture.
