The Alternative Garden Party (Dayeh University)
-
Do you remember that we had a garden party in the middle of last December? Of course, the international students of DYU also joined this party, and they provided an unusual activity for DYU’s birthday.
Before the garden party, the international students asked us to do them a favor in order to buy some bamboo and food stuff for them. In order to buy the bamboo, we drove a small track to Tian-wei (田尾), and we spent a half day in a hypermarket. Truong-Giang Nguyen and Len went with us and they chose a lot of food which would be useful to make Vietnamese spring roll, salad, and green bean with lotus soup.
On the day of garden party, all of the international students were very busy in the early morning. Some of them washed the food, some chopped, some cooked, and some of them decorated their vending area. Although it was a raining day, they still did their best to prepare every detail. Because of Vietnamese food looked really special and delicious, a lot of people were attracted and stood around their vending area.
Furthermore, many Vietnamese international students from different universities also visited the garden party. For, on one hand, they wanted to join the 17th anniversary of the founding of DYU. On the other hand, they were eager to find their Vietnamese friends who study at DYU. The international students also prepared a Vietnamese traditional recreation – bamboo dance for visitors to understand their traditional culture. And it’s quite obvious that everyone had an unforgettable experience.
Finally, after the garden party and the celebration, the international students got the first prize of the vending area decoration competition and got NT 5000 dollars. Despite they are foreigners in our university, we can see that they always work and study hard, and the most important thing is that they are really clannish. This is what we can learn from them.
